Network/Wi-Fi
First: to take advantage of the below-mentioned services you need an special ID for VPN or rather 802.1X. These can be ordered with agreement of the sga: sga@iai.uni-bonn.de. Please make sure, that the latest driver for your network card are installed, especially before making inquiries. Please mind the notes in the section Network access/Wi-Fi.
The Personal Network Access Services at the IAI (PNAS@IAI) makes it possible for the members of the IAI to get access to the IAI IP Network as well as Internet independently from the used device. Additionally you will get access into the Internet from foreign, cooperative institutions.
The base is set by two different protocols as Interfaces for the user: 802.1X and Virtual Private Network (VPN) as well as the special case VPN via 802.1X. With the login at PNAS@IAI both oppurtunities can be used parallel. First we will go into the basic application cases:
PNAS@IAI contains the access into the IAI network including the basic IP-access via
selected connection sockets of the house wiring (802.1X)
the Wi-Fi in the IAI building (802.1X or VPN)
more Wi-Fi Locations at the university of Bonn (VPN)
as well as the access into the IAI network via
any existing Internet-Connection (VPN)
Joining PNAS@IAI also offers the oppurtunity to spontaneously (without login) getting access to the internet in foreign institutions via 802.1X / RADIUS infrastructure in Germany/Europe in
special cooperative partners (currently Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology B-IT - mutual)
DFNRoaming - Partner in the german science network (as soon as the HRZ of the University of Bonn set the condition to join the DFN Proxy)
Via such internet access (802.1X) it is also possible with VPN to connect the own system into the IAI network.
In total the users of the the DFNRoaming or cooperative partners should get access to the internet in the IAI in the same uncomplicated way as members of the IAI.
